Kathmandu Welcomes New India-Funded Educational Haven: Mangala Devi Singh Memorial Girls Hostel

In a significant stride towards enhancing educational infrastructure and fostering bilateral relations, the inauguration ceremony of the Mangala Devi Singh Memorial Girls Hostel Building took place today at Shree Padmakanya Secondary School in Dillibazar, Kathmandu. The inauguration was marked by the presence of distinguished guests including Santosh Budathoki, Chief of District Coordination Committee, Kathmandu, and Shri Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary of the Embassy of India, Kathmandu.

Constructed with the generous financial assistance of the Government of India under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ initiative, the hostel stands as a testament to the enduring friendship and collaboration between the two nations. The total project cost amounted to NRs.32.36 million, with the Government of India’s grant being instrumental in the realization of this endeavor.

The four-storied hostel building boasts 39 rooms along with essential infrastructure such as a kitchen, dining hall, library, multipurpose hall, and solar backup system, among others. This initiative, executed as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) under the bilateral agreement between the governments of India and Nepal, underscores the commitment to uplifting communities and prioritizing education as a catalyst for progress.

Speaking at the inauguration, representatives from the District Coordination Committee, Kathmandu, and the School Management Committee lauded the unwavering support of the Government of India in advancing critical sectors, particularly education. The newly established infrastructure is poised to provide enhanced residential and educational facilities to the students of Shree Padmakanya Secondary School, fostering an environment conducive to holistic learning and development.

Since 2003, the Government of India has spearheaded over 551 HICDPs across Nepal, including 106 projects in Bagmati Province and 41 projects specifically in Kathmandu District. Additionally, India’s benevolent gesture of gifting 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various institutions in Nepal, with a significant portion allocated to Bagmati Province, underscores the depth of bilateral cooperation and mutual goodwill.

The successful implementation of HICDPs underscores India’s steadfast commitment to supporting Nepal’s development agenda and fortifying infrastructure in key sectors, particularly education. The enduring partnership between India and Nepal continues to pave the way for shared prosperity and progress, reaffirming the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
