Key Hearing Today in Case Against Home Minister Lamichhane

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the writ petition filed against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane today. The petition, lodged by Advocate Anupama Bhattarai, demands Lamichhane’s suspension due to his involvement in a cooperative fraud dispute.

Earlier, a bench comprising Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Til Prasad Shrestha directed the summoning of the charge sheet filed in the Rupandehi District Court related to the case. They emphasized the need to prioritize the case to resolve any confusion regarding the dispute involving GB Rai.

The petitioners highlighted that Lamichhane’s name appeared in the charge sheet, detailing loans taken by him. They also seek to annul a letter from the Attorney General’s Office, which stated there is no case of cooperative fraud against Lamichhane.

The Attorney General’s Office, Attorney General Dinmani Pokharel, and Home Minister Lamichhane have been named as respondents in the writ. Bhattarai argues that Lamichhane’s influential roles could unduly impact the investigation, contravening natural justice principles.

An interim order has been requested to suspend Lamichhane from his ministerial position while the investigation proceeds. This request has been directed at the Government of Nepal, the Prime Minister, and the Council of Ministers.
