KMC Imposes NPR 793,000 Fine on Former King Gyanendra Shah

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has fined former King Gyanendra Shah NPR 793,000 for violations related to the royalist demonstration in Tinkune on Friday.

The fine, issued under eight different categories, was officially communicated through a letter addressed to Nirmal Niwas, the former king’s residence in Kathmandu. The penalty was imposed by multiple KMC departments, with Municipal Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar Aryal leading the process.

According to the letter, challan numbers 455 to 462, the fine was levied under the Solid Waste Management Act, 2068, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Environment and Natural Resources Conservation Act, 2077, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Finance Act, 2081. Among the charges, NPR 100,000 was imposed for environmental pollution caused by indiscriminate waste dumping on roads and roadsides in Koteshwor during the protest in Tinkune, Ward No. 32.

However, the KMC clarified that it has not made any decision regarding compensation for private property damage, as such matters fall beyond its jurisdiction.

The penalty follows Friday’s protest, which escalated into violence, resulting in two fatalities, multiple injuries, and extensive damage to public and private property.
