KMC Issues Ultimatum to Illegal Pharmacies, Sets December 15 Deadline for Compliance

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has taken a decisive step to address concerns related to illegal pharmacies operating within its jurisdiction. In an official announcement, the KMC has issued an ultimatum, instructing pharmacies operating illegally to comply with the law by December 15.

The metropolis has highlighted several issues that have raised alarms, including the sale of medicines without prescriptions by unauthorized personnel, non-compliance with existing laws governing the sale of narcotic drugs, inadequate record-keeping practices, pharmacies not adhering to Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP), and operating without proper permission from local authorities. These concerns have surfaced in response to complaints from the general public regarding the quality and legality of services provided by certain pharmacies.

Mayor Balen Shah, leading the initiative, has emphasized the gravity of the situation and the need for immediate corrective action. Mayor Shah stated, “Failing to comply with the specified regulations by the given date will result in the closure of the pharmacy. The KMC is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents, and these measures are essential to maintaining the integrity of pharmaceutical services within the metropolis.”

The ultimatum serves as a clear warning to pharmacies found in violation of the stipulated regulations. Mayor Shah has urged pharmacy owners to rectify their operations, ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and standards, including obtaining the necessary permissions from local authorities. Failure to comply by December 15 will prompt the metropolis to take stringent actions, potentially leading to the closure of non-compliant pharmacies.
