KMC urges institutional schools to keep their names reflecting Nepali identity
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Education Department has urged institutional schools under the metropolis to name their schools in a manner that embodies Nepali identity.
In a public notice issued today, the Education Department made this request to institutional schools, reminding them of Rule 154(1) of the Education Regulations, 2059 (with amendment), and Rule 70 of the KMC School Education Management Regulation, 2074, which stipulate that schools should be named in a way that reflects Nepali identity.
Furthermore, the Department directed institutional schools under the KMC to contact the KMC Education Department within seven days, as it has observed that the names of most institutional schools do not comply with this provision.
The notice also warns that legal action could be taken, such as prohibiting the admission process for students, if the schools fail to adopt a naming convention reflecting Nepali identity and fail to contact the Department within a week.
In addition, the Department has asked such institutional schools to submit applications to the KMC within 35 days, selecting a name through the school management committee.
