KOICA Dispatches New Volunteer to Nepal for Agricultural Development

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has sent a new Korea Overseas Volunteer (KOV) to Nepal as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen development partnerships. Mr. An Seok Kang, the latest volunteer, arrived in Kathmandu on August 21, 2024, and will undergo a local adaptation training program before being dispatched to his designated organization on September 27, 2024.

Kang is set to work in the agriculture sector at the Mandan Deupur Municipality Office in Kavre. His arrival marks another step in KOICA’s commitment to transferring Korean knowledge and expertise directly to the grassroots level in Nepal. The KOV program, which was re-launched in December 2021 following the COVID-19 pandemic, has since dispatched 17 volunteers to Nepal across various sectors.

KOICA’s KOV program aims to improve the quality of life in partner countries, foster mutual understanding, and contribute to achieving international development goals. Since its inception in 1990, KOICA has responded to requests from the Nepalese government by assigning volunteers to diverse government organizations within and outside the Kathmandu Valley. These volunteers have contributed to sectors such as education, health, agriculture, IT, and tourism.

To date, a total of 485 KOICA volunteers have been dispatched to Nepal, with 8 currently serving in government institutions across the Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavre, and Kaski districts. KOICA’s efforts continue to play a vital role in enhancing development cooperation and fostering strong ties between Korea and Nepal.
