Koshi Province Name to Remain Unchanged, UML Affirms
The CPN-UML Koshi Province Parliamentary Party has firmly asserted that the name of the province cannot be altered, irrespective of the government’s intentions.
During the parliamentary party meeting held on Sunday, the CPN-UML members unanimously concluded that there is no viable alternative to renaming the province.
UML Chief Whip, Rewati Raman Bhandari, stated, “The name has already been determined by the State Assembly, and the government does not have the authority to change it. Therefore, the party meeting firmly concluded that there are no alternatives.”
While the UML meeting was taking place within the provincial assembly at Devkota Chowk in Biratnagar, a pro-Kirant-Limbuwan rally staged a demonstration outside.
Chief Whip Bhandari emphasized that although protests are permissible, they must refrain from any form of violence.
As the budget session of the provincial assembly commenced today, the police made several arrests in Biratnagar during the early hours of the morning.
Considering the potential escalation of protests, prohibitory orders have been issued in Biratnagar.
However, despite the prohibition order, some youths initiated protests, prompting swift action from the police in making arrests.
