Lawmaker Gurung Calls for High-Level Probe into Assets of Political Leaders, Civil Servants

Nepali Congress lawmaker Dhanaraj Gurung has urged the government to establish a high-level committee to investigate the assets of political leaders and government employees who have held office since 2046 BS (1990).

Speaking during a discussion on the government’s newly unveiled policies and programmes for the fiscal year 2082/83 BS (2025/26), Gurung emphasized that a thorough investigation by a powerful and independent body would be instrumental in curbing corruption and promoting good governance.

He further asserted that any property with no verifiable source of income should be confiscated by the state.

Welcoming the government’s policies and programmes—presented by President Ramchandra Paudel during the joint session of Parliament on May 2—Gurung said the document can be refined and improved through consensus.

He also advocated for the formation of an all-party mechanism to initiate constitutional amendments, urging political forces to set aside ideological differences and work collectively for the country’s development.
