Legendary Cricketer Brian Lara Arrives in Kathmandu
West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara arrived in Kathmandu this morning, receiving a warm welcome from officials of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Lara’s visit comes at the invitation of CAN to attend and witness matches of the ongoing first edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), currently being held in Kathmandu.
The former West Indies captain is set to watch several NPL matches and interact with players, sharing his vast experience and insights. Lara, who represented the West Indies national team from 1990 to 2007, is considered one of the greatest cricketers in the history of the sport.
During his illustrious career, Lara played 131 Test matches, amassing an impressive 11,953 runs. He holds the record for 34 centuries and 48 half-centuries in Test cricket. Notably, Lara set a world record by scoring 400 runs (not out) in a single Test match against England on April 12, 2004—a record that still stands today.
In addition to his Test achievements, Lara also played 299 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for the West Indies, further cementing his legacy as one of cricket’s all-time greats.
His visit to Nepal has generated excitement among cricket fans and players, marking a significant moment for the country’s cricketing community.
