Residents of Panighatta, Aapchautara, and Chowkchisapani areas in Abukhaireni Rural Municipality are living in fear following daily sightings of leopards in their locality.
Dinesh KC, Chairperson of Abukhaireni Rural Municipality-3, confirmed that leopards have been frequently spotted in the Panighatta area, particularly during the evening, leaving locals alarmed. Efforts are underway, in collaboration with the Division Forest Office, to set up cages in key areas to mitigate the threat of leopard attacks. KC urged residents to remain vigilant.
A cage had previously been placed in Chowkchisapani, where two leopards were sighted last Friday, according to local resident Prashanna Adhikari.
The Forest Division Office has issued safety guidelines, advising residents to light up their homes and surroundings during the evening and night, avoid walking alone, and exercise caution, particularly for children and the elderly.
Authorities are actively working to address the situation, but the recurring leopard sightings have left the community on edge.
