Life Imprisonment Verdict Challenged: Nationwide Strike Announced by NUP
The Nagarik Unmukti Party has expressed its dissatisfaction over the Supreme Court’s recent decision to uphold the lower courts’ verdicts, which sentenced Resham Lal Chaudhary, the party’s patron, to life imprisonment. In response, the party has announced a series of protest programs to voice its concerns.
Highlighting the Tiakpur incident as a politically motivated event, the party has also called for the government to release the report of the inquiry commission led by former Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal.
In an official statement, the Nagarik Unmukti Party declared that it would organize a nationwide strike lasting five days, commencing this Saturday, to make its discontent known.
The Supreme Court’s ruling on Tuesday affirmed the decisions made by the Dipayal High Court and Kailali District Court, both of which had convicted Resham Lal Chaudhary for his involvement in the Tikapur incident. Chaudhary has been found guilty of orchestrating the murder of eight police personnel, including Senior Superintendent Laxmane Neupane, in Tikapur, Kailali back in August 2015.
The Nagarik Unmukti Party’s response comes in the form of a protest against the court’s verdict, as they believe it to be an unfair judgment. By organizing a five-day nationwide strike, the party aims to convey its dissatisfaction and draw attention to the case.
