Loss Assessment from Saturday’s Earthquake Underway in Bajura
A preliminary assessment of the damage caused by the earthquake in Bajura has been made public. The tremor, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, struck with its epicenter in Gotri, Jagannath Rural Municipality.
According to the security forces’ assessments across all nine local levels, eight houses were completely destroyed, and several others sustained partial damage during the earthquake.
The District Police Office of Bajura reported that 123 households in Gotri are at risk due to post-disaster impacts. Janak Bahadur Bohora, Information Officer at the District Police Office, stated that the data collection on losses is ongoing across the district.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, local residents are urging the local governments to act swiftly, especially in providing relief to prevent the affected population from suffering further, particularly due to the cold. Civil society leader Dirgharaj Padhyay has called on local governments to deliver essential goods and services to survivors immediately to address their urgent needs.
