Lumbini Circuit Mayors Promote Buddha’s Birthplace in the US

A group of mayors from the Lumbini Circuit in Nepal is visiting the United States to promote Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, as a global tourist destination.

Organized by the Department of Tourism under the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) USA, the mayors are engaging with US officials and the Nepali community in Texas, New York, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

In Texas, the delegation met with members of the Texas State Assembly, local officials from Euless City, and Nepali community leaders. The Texas State Assembly declared “Lumbini Advocacy Day” to commemorate the visit and support the promotion of Lumbini.

Dhruv Kharel, Mayor of Devdaha Municipality, emphasized that the visit aims to establish sister-city relations with US municipalities, distribute informational material about Lumbini, and invite people to explore the Buddha Circuit in Nepal.
Mayor Sudip Poudel of Kapilvastu Municipality and Dhanpat Yadav of Ramnagar Municipality expressed hopes that the visit will strengthen cultural connections and boost tourism.

The team plans to continue its outreach in Virginia, Baltimore, Maryland, New York, and the Nepali Embassy in Washington, D.C., to further promote Lumbini and foster international collaboration.
