Madan Puraskar 2080 Awarded to Mohan Mainali, Jagadamba Shree to Prof. Dr. Yogendra Prasad Yadav
The Madan Prize Guthi has announced the recipients of the prestigious Madan Puraskar and Jagadamba Shree Puraskar for the year 2080 BS. This year, Mohan Mainali has been awarded the Madan Puraskar for his book Mukam Ranamaidan (Dateline Battlefield: Tales of Anglo-Nepal War 1814-16), while Prof. Dr. Yogendra Prasad Yadav will receive the Jagadamba Shree Puraskar for his outstanding contributions to the identification, conservation, study, and research of Nepal’s languages.
The Guthi made this decision during a meeting held on Friday, recognizing Mainali’s book as the best among 304 entries submitted for the award. The book, which delves into the Anglo-Nepal War of 1814-16, was praised for presenting extensive research findings in a clear and engaging manner. Five books, including Mainali’s, were shortlisted for the prize.
The Madan Puraskar, established in 2012 BS by Queen Jagadamba in memory of Madan Shumsher Rana, was first awarded in 2014 BS for works published in 2013 BS. Initially, the prize amount was Rs 4,000, but it has increased to Rs 400,000 since 2075 BS. Notable past recipients include Satyamohan Joshi, who won the award three times, starting with his work Hamro Lok Sanskriti (Our Folk Culture).
The Jagadamba Shree Puraskar, established in 2045 BS by the Guthi in honor of Queen Jagadamba, carries a purse of Rs 100,000. This award is given to individuals or institutions that have made significant contributions to the promotion of Nepali language, culture, and literature. Prof. Dr. Yogendra Prasad Yadav’s recognition this year underscores his lifelong dedication to the study and preservation of Nepal’s linguistic heritage.
The awards ceremony will honor these distinguished contributions, continuing the tradition of celebrating excellence in Nepali literature and cultural preservation.
