Mahakali River Exceeds Danger Mark, Flood Risk Heightens in Kanchanpur

The water level in the Mahakali River has surpassed the danger mark, increasing the risk of floods across Kanchanpur due to continuous rainfall, according to police inspector Ishwor Thapa from the District Police Office. Seventy families affected by the Doda River flood have been relocated to safer areas, while settlements in Bhimdutta Municipality-12 are inundated by the Bhujela River.

Water levels in the Mahakali, Doda, and Jogbudha rivers have surged, prompting authorities to restrict four-wheeler movement along the Sharada Barrage Bridge, as the river’s flow reached 351,000 cusecs. The bridge, in poor condition, restricts heavy vehicle movement once flow exceeds 10,000 cusecs.

With rain continuing and rivers flowing above alarming levels, the District Administration Office has urged residents in low-lying areas to take precautionary measures.
