Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu Receives Ceremonial Welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu was honored with a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday. President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed as they arrived for the official welcome.

As part of his inaugural five-day bilateral visit to India, President Muizzu, accompanied by the First Lady, paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. After laying a wreath at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial, Muizzu signed the visitors’ book at Rajghat, marking his respects to the iconic leader.

The Maldivian President is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House later today. His visit, on the official invitation of President Murmu, aims to further strengthen the diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Upon their arrival in India on Sunday, President Muizzu and the First Lady were welcomed by Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Kiriti Vardhan Singh. Muizzu also met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss enhancing relations between India and the Maldives. According to the Maldives Foreign Ministry, the two leaders reviewed ongoing initiatives supported by India and explored additional avenues for collaboration aligned with the Maldives’ development priorities.

During his visit, President Muizzu and the First Lady also met with the Maldivian community residing in New Delhi, engaging with them to understand their well-being and challenges.

This marks President Muizzu’s second visit to India this year, following his attendance at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in June.
