Mayor Balen Set to Embark on Belgium Visit, Cabinet Confirms
Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has received permission from the government to visit the European country of Belgium. Mayor Shah will be attending the ‘Metropolis World Congress and Brussels Urban Summit-2023’ program, scheduled to take place in Brussels from the 12th to the 15th of June.
Minister Rekha Sharma, the government spokesperson, made the announcement on Wednesday, stating that the government has approved Mayor Shah’s visit to participate in the international conference. The conference aims to bring together mayors, urban development experts, and investors from around the world to discuss new development models.
During the event, Mayor Shah will have the opportunity to engage in discussions on various topics related to sustainable development projects. One of the highlights of the conference will be a presentation by the mayor of Turkey, who will speak about the devastating earthquake that struck the country, as well as the subsequent rescue and reconstruction efforts. Additionally, there will be discussions on successful examples of private-community partnerships.
The program organizers have arranged for participants to visit different urban areas in Brussels, allowing them to gather valuable insights and exchange information about the development concepts implemented in the city. This will provide Mayor Shah with an opportunity to learn from the best practices and experiences of other cities.
