Minimum Wage Fixation Committee Proposes Rs 34,124 as Minimum Wage for Journalists

The Minimum Wages Fixation Committee recently put forth a recommendation to revise the minimum wages for journalists, suggesting an increase to Rs. 34,124 per month. This proposal was presented during a meeting between Committee Chair Sangeeta Khadka, member Tenish Roka, and Communication and Information Technology Minister Rekha Sharma on Sunday.

The current minimum wage for journalists stands at Rs. 24,600. However, the Committee believes that a substantial raise is necessary to address the evolving economic landscape and the rising cost of living. By proposing the new minimum salary, the Committee aims to ensure fair compensation and improved working conditions for journalists across the country.

Under the proposed revision, the Committee has further recommended that fifth-level journalists receive a salary of Rs. 37,538, while sixth-level journalists should be paid Rs. 40,900. These adjustments take into account the varying levels of experience and expertise within the journalism profession.

Although the Minimum Wages Fixation Committee has made these recommendations, their implementation is contingent upon the approval of the cabinet in an upcoming meeting. If approved, the revised minimum wages for journalists will come into effect.
