Minister for Labour Urges World Bank Support to Boost Internal Employment and Reduce Forced Foreign Employment
Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari, has called on the World Bank to support the government’s initiative to create internal employment opportunities and reduce forced foreign employment.
During a meeting with World Bank’s Country Director for Nepal, David Sislen, at the Ministry today, Minister Bhandari outlined the government’s plan to make internal employment sustainable and to eliminate the need for forced foreign employment. He emphasized the importance of strengthening employment service centers at the local level, transforming them into ‘job hubs’ with the collaboration and technical support of development partners.
Minister Bhandari explained, “Our goal is to make internal employment sustainable and end the necessity for forced foreign employment. By enhancing the capabilities of employment service centers across local levels, we aim to create robust job opportunities within the country.”
Sislen assured the Minister of the World Bank’s readiness to support these efforts through the ‘Country Partnership Programme’. He highlighted the Bank’s commitment to aiding in the creation of internal employment and the development of sustainable employment services.
The discussions also touched on strategies for increasing internal employment and empowering employment service centers, according to Govinda Prasad Rijal, Spokesperson at the Ministry.
The collaboration with the World Bank is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the government’s objectives, fostering economic stability, and providing sustainable job opportunities for Nepali citizens.
