Minister Gupta Orders Action Against Perpetrators of Birgunj Communal Clash

Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Raj Kumar Gupta, has instructed concerned authorities to investigate the recent communal clash in Birgunj and take legal action against those responsible for disrupting social harmony.

In a press statement issued today, Minister Gupta emphasized the importance of mutual respect among Nepal’s religious, cultural, and ethnic communities. He called for calm, understanding, and restraint from all sides to preserve peace and tolerance in society.

“It is deeply concerning and unfortunate when any act disturbs the fabric of mutual harmony under any pretext,” the Minister stated. “Respect for each other’s faith and beliefs is the foundation of peaceful coexistence.”

Minister Gupta noted that he is in regular contact with the local administration and security agencies to monitor the situation in Birgunj. He has directed the police to promptly identify and bring the culprits to justice.

Birgunj, regarded as Nepal’s economic and industrial hub, witnessed a violent clash between members of the Hindu and Muslim communities during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on April 12. The unrest prompted the District Administration Office in Parsa to impose a curfew to restore order.

Expressing grave concern over the incident, Minister Gupta appealed to all residents of Birgunj to remain calm and vigilant, and to work together to uphold the city’s long-standing tradition of communal harmony.
