Minister insists on collective efforts to combat VAW

Minister for Health and Population, Bhawani Prasad Khapung, has insisted on collective efforts among the bodies concerned to eliminate violence against women (VAW).

In his address to a programme on combating violence against women here today, the Minister said people’s awareness is the first condition to combat women’s violence. On the occasion, he said the One-door Crisis Management Centre (ODCMC) under the subordination of the Ministry of Health and Population provides assistance to violence survivors through 94 facilities.

On the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence-2022, the Ministry launches various awareness-raising programmes, according to the Minister.

It is said 11,046 people were provided medical facilities by the Centre last fiscal year and the majority of them were the survivors of domestic violence. The data mentioned that most of the cases of violence are from family members and relatives.

The cases of physical abuse are higher. The cases of social violence, child marriage, polygamy, child labour, dowry, witchery and human trafficking are the cases that the Center has to frequently deal with. (RSS)
