Minister Pandey Highlights Private Sector’s Role in Tourism Prosperity

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, emphasized the critical role of the private sector in driving the growth and prosperity of Nepal’s tourism industry.

Speaking at a meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, Minister Pandey stated that the Ministry has conducted two meetings focused on coordinating the three tiers of government to promote the tourism sector. Broader discussions are planned to address pressing issues, including improving airline services.

“We are assessing the operational challenges of Pokhara and Bhairahawa airports to ensure their regular functionality,” he said.

The Minister also shared updates on key initiatives, including the near-finalization of a draft tourism culture policy and the approval of the Civil Aviation Bill by the Council of Ministers.

Ministry Secretary Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey acknowledged resource constraints as a significant barrier to meeting expectations in the sector.

During the meeting, chaired by Committee President Raj Kishor Yadav, former Prime Minister and Committee member Madhav Kumar Nepal stressed the importance of completing the Nijgadh International Airport project, urging the government to attract investors for its construction.

Other lawmakers, including Prabhu Shah, Dhawal Shumsher JB Rana, Bhim Prasad Acharya, Sudan Kirati, Sunita Baral, Pre Suwal, and Yogesh Gauchan, also contributed to the discussions, highlighting the need for collaborative efforts to advance Nepal’s tourism industry.
