MoHP Highlights Major Achievements in Last 100 Days
The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has released a detailed report showcasing its performance and accomplishments over the past 100 days. The report reflects the key priorities and resolutions outlined by the Minister for Health and Population upon assuming office.
Among the significant advancements, the MoHP has ensured timely emergency services at all public health facilities. Additionally, cancer treatment services have been expanded to all seven provincial hospitals. Heart disease treatment services have also been extended in provincial hospitals in Madhesh and Gandaki Provinces. To further streamline patient services, a token system has been introduced at these provincial hospitals.
The report highlights the successful implementation of two-shift OPD services in more than a dozen public hospitals, including Bir Hospital and Kanti Children’s Hospital. This measure aims to improve patient care and reduce waiting times.
Free Burn Treatment and Mental Health Services
One of the standout initiatives is the provision of free burn treatment for patients unable to afford the cost, available at designated hospitals in all seven provinces. Bir Hospital has taken the lead by opening a 15-bed ward dedicated to burn treatment.
Additionally, OPD services for mental health have been launched for new and expecting mothers. The report also announced the introduction of newborn screening for genetic diseases at Paropakar Maternity Hospital, marking a significant step forward in maternal and child health care.
Medicine Availability and Infrastructure Development
The MoHP report also noted a considerable improvement in the availability of medicines in federal hospitals, with supplies increasing from 60% to 90%. Six new pharmacy counters have been set up in various hospitals to accommodate the growing number of patients, according to Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, Spokesperson for the MoHP.
In terms of infrastructure, the 35-bed Inpatient Department (IPD) service has been launched at Geta Hospital in Kailali, further strengthening healthcare delivery in the region.
Human Resource Management and Equipment Inventory
A tripartite agreement between the MoHP, the Ministry of Education and Science Technology, and the Medical Education Commission has been signed to address health sector human resource management. Furthermore, an integrated inventory of medical tools and equipment has been completed after surveying 14 federal hospitals, 6 provincial hospitals, and 60 district hospitals.
Support for Female Health Volunteers and Public Health Campaigns
Female Community Health Volunteers will now benefit from waived transportation fares for work-related commutes on public transport, a new initiative led by the MoHP.
Public health awareness campaigns, particularly focused on cancer, have also gained momentum. Campaigns have been broadcast in more than 300 cinema halls nationwide, and the Citizens Arogya Programme has been implemented at 304 local levels to improve public health outcomes.
In the last 100 days, 8,678 women underwent ovarian cancer screening, and breast cancer awareness content was aired 189 times on radio and 70 times on television in 15 different languages.
The MoHP’s 100-day performance report underscores its efforts to enhance healthcare services across Nepal. Through improved service delivery, expanded treatment options, and targeted public health campaigns, the Ministry is taking significant steps toward strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
