Monsoon Disasters Wreak Havoc Across 50 Districts: 41 Lives Lost and Counting

In a devastating turn of events, monsoon-triggered disasters have wreaked havoc across 50 districts in Nepal, leaving a trail of destruction and claiming the lives of 41 people. Since the monsoon’s onset on June 14th, the country has been grappling with floods and landslides that have left communities shattered and families devastated.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has reported that, as of now, 41 individuals have tragically lost their lives due to the calamitous effects of the monsoon, with an additional 31 people still missing. Mahadev Panth, the head of the Disaster and Conflict Management Division within the Ministry of Home Affairs, has provided insights into the scale of the catastrophe. The toll includes 55 individuals who were injured in the disaster.

Amid the grim statistics, it has been revealed that 20 of the affected districts have borne the brunt of human losses, with the death toll concentrated in these areas. Furthermore, six districts – Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Panchthar, Dolakha, Makwanpur, and Mahottari – are grappling with the agonizing absence of 31 individuals who have gone missing in the wake of the disasters. In total, 55 people from twenty-eight districts have been reported injured.

Structural damage is also a significant concern, with 130 houses being completely demolished and 193 houses partially damaged by the relentless force of nature. The scale of destruction underscores the urgent need for comprehensive relief efforts to aid the affected communities in their recovery and rebuilding processes.

The initial onset of the monsoon season brought a deluge of heavy rains that severely impacted eastern Nepal, including districts such as Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, and Taplejung. The anticipated continuation of heavy rainfall throughout the monsoon season raises concerns of further floods and landslides in various parts of the country. However, it’s worth noting that some districts have thus far been spared from the relentless downpours.
