MPs-elect taking oath at 1:00 pm today
Newly elected members of the House of Representatives are taking the oath of office and secrecy at 1:00 pm today.
A program has been scheduled for a swearing-in ceremony at the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwor, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
There is a provision that the eldest member of the HoR would administer an oath of office and secrecy to other members before the election to the post of the Speaker.
In this connection, President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday administered an oath of office and secrecy to the eldest member of the Lower House, Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana.
The eldest HoR member takes the oath of office and secrecy from the President and he/she administers the oath of office and secrecy to other members later, as per the constitutional provision.
There is a constitutional provision that the seniormost member of the House of Representatives by age among the members present will preside over the meeting of the House in case the Speaker and Deputy Speaker has not been elected or both the posts remain vacant.
The Federal Parliament has urged the MPs-elect to be present for the swearing-in with the certificate of the Member of the House of Representatives issued by the Election Commission, a copy of the Nepali citizenship certificate, and two copies of recent passport-size photos.
The Secretariat has also requested the MPs-elect to be present for the oath-taking ceremony in national attire or the dress reflecting their respective cultural identity.
Likewise, the newly-elected HoR members have been urged to provide to the Secretariat a copy of the translation of the oath in their mother language if they wish to take the oath in their respective mother tongue.
