Municipality Chair and Former Ward Chair Released on Bail in Caste-Based Discrimination Case

Aurahi Rural Municipality Chair Shivaji Yadav and former ward chair Dilip Kumar Yadav have been released on bail following their arrest for allegedly demolishing a Dalit man’s house to organize a Mahayagya.

The Siraha District Court, under Judge Bidur Kafley, ordered their release on Friday after setting a bail amount of Rs 100,000 each. The two were facing charges under caste-based discrimination and untouchability laws after a case was filed against them.

The incident dates back to February 22, when the house of Deepak Malik in Rural Municipality-5 was bulldozed to make way for the Mahayagya. Shivaji Yadav, a member of the Janata Samajbadi Party and the head of the event’s organizing committee, along with Dilip Kumar Yadav, the committee’s secretary, was arrested on March 21.

Meanwhile, Bajrangi Baba, the main priest of the Mahayagya, who allegedly ordered the demolition, remains at large. Authorities are continuing their search for his whereabouts.
