NBA reminds government of delay in appointing CJ
A delegation from the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) today called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to draw the government’s attention to the need for the appointment of the Chief Justice promptly.
The delegation comprising NBA office-bearers, former office-bearers and presidents and officials of its Kathmandu Valley-based units urged the government to hold a meeting of the Constitutional Council immediately and appoint the Chief Justice. They reminded the government that the judiciary has been led by an acting CJ for 14 months.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister praised the NBA’s role for its contribution to the protection and promotion of democracy, the constitution and to the improvement of the justice system.
During the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence Baluwatar, the delegation also discussed with the Prime Minister the issue of forming a parliamentary hearing committee, according to NBA President Gopal Krishna Ghimire.
In response, the Prime Minister said he would be sitting for discussions with the officials of the Constitutional Council soon over the issues raised by the NBA, promising to take initiation to reach to a conclusion.
