NC Calls for Parliamentary Probe into Cooperative Fraud Case Amid Accusations Against Home Minister

The Nepali Congress (NC), Nepal’s principal opposition party, has intensified pressure on the government, urging the establishment of a parliamentary committee to investigate the burgeoning cooperative fraud case. The call for scrutiny comes amidst mounting suspicions implicating Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in the alleged fraudulent activities.

During Tuesday’s House of Representatives (HoR) session, Ramesh Lekhak, the NC’s chief whip, unequivocally asserted the necessity for a thorough examination of the evidence pointing towards Minister Lamichhane’s involvement. Lekhak’s stance underscored the party’s unwavering commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency within the government’s ranks.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Lekhak warned that the government’s failure to address the opposition’s demands could potentially precipitate disruptions to parliamentary proceedings, holding the ruling party accountable for any ensuing chaos.

Prime Minister Dahal, however, rebuffed allegations implicating Lamichhane, citing a dearth of conclusive evidence. Despite NC’s persistent calls for investigation, PM Dahal staunchly defended his minister, accusing the opposition of politicizing the issue for ulterior motives.

In a bid to assuage mounting concerns, PM Dahal pledged to take decisive action should Lamichhane be found guilty of any wrongdoing. He asserted his personal oversight of the case and reiterated his commitment to upholding the rule of law.

Furthermore, PM Dahal implored the Nepali Congress not to obstruct parliamentary sessions, urging cooperation and constructive engagement in addressing national issues.
