NC heavyweight leaders in election battle from these constituencies
Nepal is on the brink of the polls of the House 0f representative (HoR) and Provincial Assembly (PA). The government is holding polls in a single phase on November 20(after three days).
Election fever has grasped to all leaders and citizens all over the country. Candidates and their supporters are out campaigning, meeting their constituents, and canvassing for votes. Election posters and flags can be seen everywhere.
The ballots will decide who will occupy 165 of the 275 seats in the House of Representatives in the first-past-the-post category. The remaining 110 MPs will be elected through the proportional election system. The voting to be held on November 20 will also elect 330 assembly members from seven provinces. There are about 18 million eligible voters this time.
The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) has filed candidacy of 86 candidates for the upcoming polls of the House of Representatives (HoR).
NC will be supporting the members of the ruling alliance in 77 election constituencies.
The party has filed candidacy of 19 candidates in Province 1, 15 in Madesh Province and 18 in Bagmati Province. Likewise, the party has filed candidacy of 9 candidates in Gandaki, 12 in Lumbini, four in Karnali and nine in Sudurpaschim provinces.
Let’s have a glance over some heavyweight leaders of Nepali Congress who are contesting in the battle of the House of Representatives election.
1) Sher Bahadur Deuba
Nepali Congress (NC) President and Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba is contesting the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives from his home district, Dadeldhura. Deuba has been winning consecutive elections from Dadeldhura since 2048 BS.
2) Purna Bahadur Khadka
Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka is contesting the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives from Surkhet constituency 1. Khadka, who was contesting from 2048 (except 2064), was defeated by UML candidate Dhruv Kumar Shahi in the 2074 election.
3) Ram Chandra Poudel
Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel is contesting the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives from Tanahun district electoral constituency-1.
4) Bal Krishna Khand
Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand is contesting the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives from Rupandehi constituency- 3
5) Gagan Thapa
Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa is contesting from Kathmandu Constituency-4 for the House of Representatives. He is also portraying himself as the future Prime Minister of Nepal.
6) Bishwa Prakash Sharma
Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma is contesting the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives from his home district, Jhapa Constituency 1. Sharma contested from Jhapa 1 in 2070 BS and 2074 BS but was defeated in both elections.
7) Prakash Man Singh
Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh will compete in Kathmandu Constituency No 1 for the House of Representatives. Leader Singh won the constituency in the last three elections.
8) Krishna Prasad Sitaula
Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula is a candidate for the House of Representatives from Jhapa Constituency-3. In 2017, Lingden formed a coalition with the CPN-UML and defeated Sitaula by around 13,000 votes.
9) Shekhar Koirala
Nepali Congress (NC) leader Shekhar Koirala is contesting the upcoming elections to the House of Representatives from Morang 6. Lal Babu Pandit of CPN-UML had defeated him by 675 votes in 2017. He is competing with Lal Babu Pandit of CPN-UML.
10) Shashanka Koirala
Nepali Congress leader Shashanka Koirala is contesting the election for a seat in the federal House of Representatives from Nawalpur constituency-1. Nepali Congress leader Shashanka Koirala is contesting the election for a seat in the federal House of Representatives from Nawalpur constituency-1. Koirala won the Constituent Assembly Elections in 2064, and 2070 and the House of Representatives Election in 2074. He is competing with a central member of CPN-UML Krishna Prasad Paudel.
11) Dhanraj Gurung
Nepali Congress central Vice President Dhanaraj Gurung is contesting the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections from the Syangja constituency-2. He will face UML Secretary Padma Aryal. This is Gurung’s first election contest.
12) Dr. Narayan Khadka
Nepali Congress leader, who is currently the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Narayan Khadka is contesting the election of the House of Representatives for the fourth time from Udayapur-1 . CPN (UML) leader Manjukumari Chaudhary is in the field to stop him.
13) Gyanendra Bahadur Karki
NC leader and current Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki is a candidate to election of House of Representatives from Sunsari Constituency Number 4. He is contesting against CPN-UML-JSP coalition, Jagdish Prasad Kusiyait .
