NC to File Amendment Proposal on Investment Facilitation Bill

The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has decided to file a collective amendment proposal on the Investment Facilitation Bill. This decision was made during a meeting of the NC parliamentary party held in Singha Durbar on Wednesday after consulting with entrepreneurs, industrialists, and investors.

House of Representatives member Nagina Yadav stated that the NC plans to seek legal reforms in the bill, which is currently viewed as not investment-friendly. The amendment proposal, based on recommendations from the business community, includes eight key points covering land ceiling, land acquisition, forest, public-private partnership investment, and Special Economic Zones.

As a party committed to liberal democracy, NC aims to introduce flexible measures to attract foreign investment. Entrepreneurs had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the bill’s lack of consideration for their input. NC’s assistant general secretary noted that the parliamentary party routinely consults with experts and stakeholders on various bills. Representatives from the business community, including chiefs of industrialists and entrepreneurs’ organizations, participated in the discussion.
