Nepal Airlines Suspends Domestic Flights Due to Aircraft Shortage
Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), the national flag carrier, has suspended all domestic flight operations due to a lack of operational aircraft. The airline’s only active Twin Otter plane was grounded on Sunday following technical issues, leaving its domestic services at a complete standstill.
The NAC currently owns two Twin Otter planes. One has been out of service for the past seven months, and the grounding of the second aircraft has now halted operations entirely.
Ramesh Poudel, spokesperson for NAC, confirmed the suspension, stating, “Domestic flights cannot take place due to technical issues. However, we are working to resolve these problems, and the flight service will resume soon.”
NAC’s domestic flights primarily cater to remote districts, with operations based in Kathmandu and regional hubs. The grounding of its aircraft disrupts critical connectivity for these areas. The airline assured that necessary procedures are underway to restore services promptly.
