Nepal and Cameroon Establish Diplomatic Relations
Nepal and the Republic of Cameroon officially established diplomatic relations on Thursday. The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, Amrit Bahadur Rai, and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cameroon to the United Nations, Michel Tommo Monthe, signed a Joint Communiqué solidifying the diplomatic ties between the two nations. The signing ceremony took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the two envoys to engage in fruitful discussions on matters of common interest, with a focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in national and international forums, particularly within the United Nations. The aim is to enhance mutual benefits and promote collaboration between Nepal and Cameroon.
Ambassador Rai and Ambassador Monthe also signed a joint letter, formally informing the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, about the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Cameroon.
Cameroon, located in West Africa, boasts a rich cultural diversity with over 240 tribes and 230 languages. The country shares its borders with Chad, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Nigeria, with the Atlantic Ocean to the southwest. Spanning an area of 475,440 square kilometers, Cameroon has a population of over 27 million.
Having gained independence on January 1, 1960, Cameroon joined the United Nations on September 20, 1960. Nepal and China, both countries are members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
