Nepal and China Discuss Key Infrastructure Projects During High-Level Meeting in Beijing
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Nepal, Bishnu Prasad Paudel, held a meeting with China’s Deputy Prime Minister, He Lifeng, in Beijing, where both leaders discussed deepening cooperation and advancing key infrastructure projects between the two countries.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister He Lifeng reaffirmed China’s commitment to accelerating the implementation of previously agreed-upon cooperation projects. He pledged additional support for Nepal’s development in the future, emphasizing China’s dedication to fostering stronger bilateral ties.
Finance Minister Paudel used the opportunity to highlight several infrastructure projects that are crucial for Nepal’s growth, requesting expedited construction and cooperation on initiatives such as the Kerung-Kathmandu railway, the Tokha-Chhare tunnel, and the Kimathangka-Hile and Hilsa-Surkhet-Bhurigaon roads. He also called for support in establishing the Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology and the Damak Industrial Park. Additionally, Paudel sought China’s assistance in expanding direct air services from various Chinese cities to Bhairahawa and Pokhara International Airports.
Mahesh Bhattarai, spokesperson for Nepal’s Ministry of Finance, who was part of the delegation, noted that the Chinese government responded positively to Nepal’s requests and expressed a commitment to advancing these projects.
The meeting, which lasted for about an hour, included key officials from both sides. Representing Nepal were Chargé d’Affaires Surendra Yadav and officials from the Finance Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office. The Chinese delegation included high-level officials such as Minister of Transport Li Xiaopeng, Vice Premier He Lifeng, and top representatives from China’s National Railway Administration and Civil Aviation Authority.
This meeting marks an important step forward in Nepal-China cooperation, with both sides keen to strengthen ties and accelerate infrastructure development in Nepal.
