Nepal and China Sign MoU for Cooperation Across Nine Key Areas

Nepal and the People’s Republic of China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in eight critical areas, including trade promotion, technical assistance, and infrastructure development. The MoU was inked today at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, in the presence of Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

The agreement follows a bilateral meeting between the two leaders, during which discussions emphasized strengthening ties across various sectors. Prime Minister Oli is currently on a four-day official visit to China, accompanied by a high-level delegation.

Key agreements signed during the visit include:

Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel Construction – Exchange of letters on technical and financial collaboration.

Nepal-China Trade Promotion – MoU to facilitate trade and investment opportunities.

Basantapur Durbar Reconstruction – Exchange of certificates for the completion of restoration works.

Thermal Buffalo Meat Export Protocol – A step toward boosting Nepal’s agricultural exports.

Economic and Technical Cooperation – Agreements to fund development initiatives.

Volunteer Chinese Language Teachers – Deployment to enhance cultural and educational ties.

Communication Technology Collaboration – Partnership between Nepal Television and China Media Group.

Cash Assistance – Exchange of letters formalizing financial support for development projects.

Latter Of Exchange

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Dhakal highlighted that the agreements span diverse areas, including connectivity, medical cooperation, agriculture, tourism, investment, science and technology, sports, and poverty alleviation.

“This milestone agreement elevates Nepal-China relations to a new level, fostering connectivity, infrastructure development, and trade cooperation,” Dhakal stated.

Before the bilateral talks, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army honored Prime Minister Oli with a guard of honor. The visit underscores Nepal’s commitment to advancing its strategic partnership with China.
