Nepal and India Discuss Key Energy Projects Including Siliguri-Jhapa Petroleum Pipeline
Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, held discussions with India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, on Monday in New Delhi. The meeting addressed several bilateral energy projects, including the construction of the Siliguri-Jhapa petroleum pipeline.
The talks, which coincided with Minister Bhandari’s participation in the Partnership Summit, covered issues of mutual interest, implementation of past agreements, and future collaborations. Discussions also included the expansion of the Amalekhgunj-Chitwan petroleum pipeline, a gas pipeline in Sarlahi, and the relocation of the Tribhuvan International Airport’s petroleum depot.
Minister Puri assured that India is prepared to extend support once the integrated report from Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) is finalized.
Both ministers agreed to ensure the regular convening of bilateral government mechanisms to facilitate effective collaboration. Minister Puri reiterated India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s socio-economic development.
The meeting reflects continued efforts to enhance energy cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
