Nepal Bar Association demands prompt appointment of Chief Justice
Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has drawn the government’s attention to go ahead with the process to appoint the Chief Justice promptly.
At a press meet organised by the NBA today, NBA President Gopal Krishna Ghimire demanded the government appoint the CJ within the next 10 days. “The post of Chief Justice has been lying vacant for long and multiple posts of judges are vacant at the high and districts courts,” he said, seeking the appointment of the CJ within the given time.
The NBA has expressed its concern over the matter, accusing the government of not listening to its frequent requests to give a leadership to the apex court.
Ghimire also sought the implementation of a report by the then judge Hari Krishna Karki to end anomalies in judiciary and to maintain its dignity.
As he said, the Bar will be meeting Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ tomorrow morning with the memo to this regard.
NBA, Supreme Court unit President Hari Shanaker Niraula also demanded the government proceed with the appointment of CJ soon. The delay in appointing the CJ has its implications in the entire judiciary, he said.
In addition to this, the NBA demands the implementation of a fully automated system in the proper management of cause list, finalization of an impeachment motion against former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumser JB Rana and the implementation of scientific system in the appointment of judges.
