Nepal, Bhutan PMs Discuss Strengthening People-to-People and Trade Relations in New York
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of Nepal and Prime Minister Dasi Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan held discussions in New York on Sunday, focusing on enhancing people-to-people and trade relations between the two countries. PM Oli is currently leading the Nepali delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The meeting took place at the Office of Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations. According to Bishnu Prasad Rimal, PM Oli’s chief political advisor, both leaders emphasized advancing collaboration on both bilateral and multilateral platforms.
Bhutanese Prime Minister Tobgay acknowledged the deep cultural ties between Bhutan and Nepal, particularly due to Nepal’s Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. He also expressed appreciation for Nepal’s role as Chair of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and the goodwill extended to Bhutan.
In response, PM Oli assured Bhutan of Nepal’s commitment to facilitating stronger trade and people-to-people relations, reinforcing the mutual bond between the two nations.
The meeting underscored the long-standing friendly relations between Nepal and Bhutan, with both leaders agreeing to work towards further strengthening these ties.
