Nepal Celebrates Holi, the Festival of Colors and Harmony

Holi, one of Nepal’s most vibrant and widely celebrated festivals, is being observed in the hilly regions of the country today, while the Tarai region will mark the festival tomorrow. Known as Phagu Poornima, the festival is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm as people smear colorful powders, splash water, and sing and dance together. People of all ages join in the festivities, fostering an atmosphere of unity and merriment.

Holi has long been observed as a celebration of the victory of truth over falsehood and plays a vital role in minimizing inequality and discrimination in society. The festival serves as a reminder of social harmony and goodwill among different communities.

On this occasion, President Ram Chandra Paudel expressed his belief that Holi would contribute to strengthening national unity and reinforcing Nepal’s cultural identity. In his message of best wishes, he emphasized that Nepal’s diversity is its strength and that the festival fosters love and harmony while renouncing anger and resentment. He extended his heartfelt wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepalis at home and abroad.

Similarly, Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ also conveyed their best wishes, highlighting Holi’s role in promoting unity and cultural richness in Nepal.
