Nepal Embarks on Digital Transformation: Online Demand Attestation for Foreign Employment Commences Today

The government has initiated the online attestation process for demand papers related to foreign employment, commencing from Thursday. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha inaugurated the verification process at a ceremony held at the Department of Consular Services.

The first phase of this revolutionary service began today at the Embassy of Nepal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with plans to extend it to other diplomatic missions gradually. This initiative aims to streamline the cumbersome process of attestation, which previously required physical visits to diplomatic missions.

Previously, the attestation process, initiated in the Embassy of Nepal in Saudi Arabia in 2012, was not integrated with the Foreign Employment Information Management System (FEIMS), leading to inefficiencies. However, with the integration of the online platform, employers and recruiting agencies can now conveniently complete the attestation process from anywhere, eliminating the need for intermediaries.

Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha emphasized that the new online system ensures transparency and reduces risks for migrant workers. Employers from receiving countries can now submit applications online, with payments processed only after approval. This not only enhances efficiency but also bolsters workers’ welfare and provides officials with better control and facilitation over the process.

Minister for Labour, Employment, and Social Security Dol Prasad Aryal hailed the online attestation system as a significant step towards ensuring the welfare of workers. Additionally, Prakash Mani Poudel, Director General of the Department of Consular Services, highlighted the improved quality of service with the adoption of this technology-driven intervention despite limited resources.
