Nepal Engages in Diplomatic Efforts for Bipin Joshi’s Release

Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, has intensified diplomatic efforts for the release of Nepali national Bipin Joshi, who is believed to be held captive by Hamas. In a telephonic conversation on Thursday night, Minister Deuba urged her Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to take immediate action for Joshi’s safe release.

Foreign Minister Araghchi assured that he would prioritize the issue in his upcoming discussions with Hamas officials, according to Minister Deuba’s private secretariat. The appeal comes amid ongoing releases of captives following the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

Nepal has been pursuing various diplomatic channels to secure Joshi’s freedom. Last week, Minister Deuba held similar discussions with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, requesting support. She has also reached out to Qatar and Egypt—both key mediators in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire talks—urging them to take special initiatives for Joshi’s release.

Additionally, Minister Deuba engaged in a telephonic discussion with Israel’s Foreign Minister weeks ago regarding the matter. Nepal’s Ambassador to Israel, Prof. Dr. Dhana Prasad Pandit, has also been in contact with the Israeli President, pressing for Joshi’s release.

Since last year, the Nepalese government has remained steadfast in its diplomatic efforts, leveraging international and regional platforms, including the United Nations, to push for Joshi’s safe return.
