Nepal Joins Global Observance of World Meditation Day
Nepal is marking World Meditation Day today, joining global efforts to raise awareness about the benefits of meditation. The United Nations General Assembly recently declared December 21 as World Meditation Day, recognizing the role of meditation in promoting physical and mental health.
The UN resolution, passed on December 6, 2024, underscores the universal right to the highest attainable standards of physical and mental well-being. This year, a 32-hour worldwide meditation marathon has been organized to commemorate the inaugural celebration of the day.
In Nepal, numerous religious, spiritual, cultural, and social organizations have hailed the UN’s decision and are actively participating in events across the country. The Government of Nepal has also officially announced its commitment to observing the day through various programs.
The Nepal Maharishi Vedic Foundation is hosting a mass meditation session at 8:45 am at its meditation centers, including the Global Mother Divine and 90 gurukulas, said Chairperson Deepak Prakash Baskota.
Similarly, other organizations such as Jeevan Vigyan, Patanjali Sanstha, and Brahma Kumari Rajayoga Sewa Kendra are conducting their own programs to promote meditation practices and their benefits.
The celebration of World Meditation Day is being seen as a historic step toward fostering global health and mindfulness. Events across Nepal range from community meditation sessions to discussions and awareness campaigns aimed at integrating meditation into daily life.
The day is not only a reminder of the importance of mental well-being but also a call for collective action to embrace meditation as a tool for achieving personal and societal harmony.
