
Nepal Marks 10th Memorial of Devastating Gorkha Earthquake

Nepal is observing the 10th memorial of the devastating Gorkha Earthquake today with a series of commemorative programs across the country.
The 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck on April 25, 2015, with its epicenter at Barpak in Gorkha district, claiming 9,079 lives and injuring 22,309 people. The disaster inflicted severe damage, destroying more than 800,000 private homes and around 1,500 cultural heritage sites.
The hardest-hit districts included Gorkha, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Nuwakot, Dhading, Rasuwa, Makawanpur, Sindhuli, and Okhaldhunga.
The annual commemoration serves as a reminder of the tragic losses and highlights the importance of earthquake preparedness and resilient infrastructure development.
A special ceremony is being held today at the premises of Dharahara in Sundhara, Kathmandu, with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli scheduled to attend the event.
