Nepal Prepares Action Plan to Exit FATF Grey List

The Government of Nepal has initiated efforts to remove the country from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF)’s grey list, with preparations underway to finalize and implement a targeted action plan.
A meeting of the Anti-Money Laundering Steering Committee held on Tuesday concluded with a consensus on expediting the necessary measures. Chairing the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel emphasized the need for a long-term strategy to prevent Nepal from being placed on the grey list again in the future.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Kumar Chaurasia, stated that with political will and coordinated efforts, Nepal can successfully exit the grey list.
Attorney General Ramesh Badal highlighted the importance of institutional good governance across all state agencies, while Chief Secretary Eaknarayan Aryal stressed the role of technology and strict adherence to the action plan in achieving this goal.
Acting Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Neelam Dhungana Timsina, underlined the importance of proactive implementation, cautioning against last-minute compliance.
Nepal was added to the FATF grey list in February 2025, prompting urgent reforms in areas related to anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing.
