On Thursday, the Qatari Ambassador to Nepal, Mishaal Bin Mohamed Ali Al-Ansari, paid a courtesy visit to Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak at the Home Ministry in Singha Durbar. The meeting focused on a range of bilateral issues of mutual interest.
During the discussion, Minister Lekhak made a special appeal to Ambassador Al-Ansari, requesting Qatar’s support in securing the release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who is currently held captive by Hamas militants. This issue has been a matter of grave concern for the Nepalese government and Joshi’s family.
In addition to this urgent request, Minister Lekhak urged the Qatari Ambassador to implement a comprehensive insurance scheme for Nepali migrant workers in Qatar that would provide round-the-clock coverage. He emphasized the need for prompt rescue operations for injured workers and swift relief measures for the families of those who lose their lives while working in Qatar.
Furthermore, Minister Lekhak requested that Qatar consider granting amnesty to Nepali migrants currently serving jail sentences in the country, in a gesture of goodwill and strengthening bilateral relations.
In response, Ambassador Al-Ansari assured the Home Minister that Qatar is actively working towards the release of Bipin Joshi. He also expressed his appreciation for the contributions of Nepali migrant workers to Qatar’s development, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.
This meeting highlights the ongoing cooperation and diplomatic engagement between Nepal and Qatar, focusing on the welfare of Nepali citizens working abroad and strengthening bilateral ties.
