Nepal Secures 12 Medals at South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship

Nepal won a total of 12 medals, including one gold, six silver, and five bronze, at the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship held in Kathmandu.

India dominated the tournament, claiming the remaining 13 gold medals across the U-19 and U-15 categories. Nepal’s gold came from the U-19 boys’ team event, where Prabesh Basnet, Gananjay Dahal, Himal Bista, and Rubin Maharjan delivered a strong performance at the National Table Tennis Training Centre in Lainchaur on Sunday.

In the U-15 boys’ team event, Nepal’s team—Prajil Bhattarai, Jayasnu Maharjan, Aryan Shahi, and Rijan Shakya—earned silver. Additionally, Gananjay Dahal and Prabesh Basnet secured silver in the U-19 boys’ doubles, while Prajil Bhattarai and Jayasnu Maharjan claimed silver in the U-15 boys’ doubles.

The four-day tournament, organized by the All Nepal Table Tennis Association, saw participation from 85 players representing six South Asian countries, with Bhutan absent.

According to organizers, the top two teams from the U-19 boys’ and girls’ events have qualified for the upcoming Asian Junior Table Tennis Championships in Uzbekistan.
