Nepal Secures $150 Million from World Bank for Post-Disaster Reconstruction and Climate Health Projects
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Bishnu Poudel, attended the annual meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington D.C., where he met with WBG Vice President for South Asia, Martin Raiser, on Wednesday. The meeting centered on generating employment opportunities and improving the business environment in Nepal.
Key topics included the implementation of major infrastructure projects and the role of remittance inflow in creating job opportunities. Poudel’s discussions emphasized Nepal’s focus on economic growth and job creation.
In a significant development, the World Bank has agreed to provide Nepal with $150 million in assistance for post-disaster reconstruction and addressing health challenges related to natural disasters and climate change. The agreement was signed by Finance Secretary Ram Prasad Ghimire and the World Bank’s representative for Nepal, David Sislen.
This support will bolster Nepal’s efforts to recover from recent natural disasters and address climate-related health complications. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of DPM Poudel and WBG Vice President Raiser, marking a key moment in strengthening Nepal’s international partnerships for sustainable development.
