Nepal Urges EU to Lift Aviation Ban on Nepali Airlines

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, has called on the European Union (EU) to lift its longstanding ban on Nepali airlines operating in EU airspace.

In a meeting with an EU delegation led by Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo at the Ministry on Wednesday, Minister Pandey emphasized the importance of lifting the ban to support Nepal’s aviation and tourism sectors. He highlighted Nepal’s longstanding partnership with the EU, which spans over five decades, and urged for expedited action to remove the restrictions.

Ambassador Lorenzo acknowledged the challenges posed by the EU ban on Nepal’s tourism industry and stressed the need for Nepal to enhance its technological capabilities in civil aviation to meet international safety standards.

The Ambassador also mentioned France’s Airbus company’s willingness to support Nepal in strengthening its civil aviation sector.

The EU imposed the ban on Nepali airlines in 2013, citing safety concerns. The restrictions have significantly impacted Nepal’s tourism-dependent economy, and lifting the ban remains a priority for the government.
