Nepali Army Heads to India for Exercise ‘Surya Kiran’

The Nepali Army contingent has departed for India to take part in the 17th chapter of the India-Nepal Joint Military Exercise ‘Surya Kiran,’ set to commence in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, India, starting this Friday.

Scheduled to run until December 7, this joint military exercise fosters collaboration between the Nepali Army and the Indian Army. Since its inception in 2010, the India-Nepal Joint Military Exercise ‘Surya Kiran’ has alternately taken place in both neighboring countries. The 16th chapter concluded on December 29 last year at the Nepali Army Battle School in Saljhandi, located in the Rupandehi district.

During this joint military exercise, both nations’ armed forces will apply practical aspects of counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism, and engage in forest and disaster management scenarios. The exercise aims to facilitate the exchange of theoretical, practical, and specialized experiences between the Nepali Army and the Indian Army.

The participating parties express confidence that the joint exercise will not only enhance bilateral relations but also contribute to mutual cooperation between the two armies. They anticipate that this collaboration will further strengthen the unique, traditional, and time-tested friendship between India and Nepal. The exercise serves as a platform for shared learning and the practical application of military strategies, reflecting the commitment of both nations to regional security and cooperation.
