Nepali Congress Excludes RSP in 48th Unity Day Invitations

As the Nepali Congress gears up to commemorate the 48th National Unity and Reconciliation Day on Poush 16, invitations have been extended to a roster of top political leaders. The event, scheduled for Poush 16 in the Nepali calendar, marks the historic return of NC’s founding president BP Koirala and other leaders from exile in 1976 AD.

Invitations have been extended to key figures, including Prime Minister and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Unified Socialist Party Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, Janata Samajwadi Party Chairman Upendra Yadav, and LSP Chairman Mahantha Thakur.

However, notable by their absence from the guest list are leaders from the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP). The NC’s decision to exclude RSP leaders from the Unity Day event has raised eyebrows and sparked speculation about the reasons behind this exclusion.

The National Unity and Reconciliation Day holds historical significance, as leaders like BP Koirala, Ganesh Man Singh, Shailaja Acharya, and Khum Bahadur Khadka returned to Nepal in 1976 AD, advocating for national unity and reconciliation. BP Koirala emphasized the need for reconciliation among various political parties and the King to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty.

The exclusion of RSP leaders from this year’s Unity Day invitations underscores the NC’s focus on figures actively involved in the constitution-drafting process.
