Nepali Congress to Present Unified Voice in Upcoming Parliamentary Session

The Nepali Congress (NC) has resolved to project a unified front in the upcoming session of parliament. This decision emerged from a meeting held on Saturday, attended by NC office-bearers, former office-bearers, and members of the parliamentary party’s executive committee at Singha Durbar.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba urged all party leaders and ministers to maintain unity both within and outside the parliament. Parliamentary party’s Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire stated that the party is determined to uphold a cohesive approach throughout the legislative session.
During the meeting, Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak discussed the government’s consideration of ordinance-based amendments aimed at revitalizing the national economy. He explained that any necessary revisions to these ordinances could be made when they are tabled as replacement bills in parliament.
Chief Whip Ghimire provided a briefing on preparations for the upcoming session, including the status of bills under review and those likely to be passed. He emphasized the party’s shared stance on ordinances introduced to foster an investment-friendly environment, citing their efficiency in expediting economic reforms compared to traditional legislative processes.
NC Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat updated participants on the ordinances and outlined the government’s priorities. He noted that relevant parliamentary committees are expected to expedite their work to ensure timely endorsement of critical bills during the session.
Dr. Mahat highlighted that the meeting sought suggestions and recommendations from party leaders to guide ministers representing the NC in the coalition government. He mentioned a potential party mechanism to conduct detailed work on constitutional amendments and identify key issues for consideration.
Leaders including Bijay Kumar Gachchadar, Bimalendra Nidhi, Maha Laxmi Upadhyay, Umakanta Chaudhary, Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel, and Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari, shared their perspectives on contemporary issues and their respective responsibilities.
Dr. Mahat remarked that the NC ministers have been performing well but acknowledged there is more to be achieved to meet the party’s objectives. The meeting reinforced the party’s commitment to maintaining a strong presence in government and delivering on its promises.
